What does Ayurveda mean?

Ayurveda (आयुर्वेढ) is a Sanskrit word derived from the words:

  • Ayur – meaning life or longevity
  • Veda – meaning knowledge or wisdom

Therefore, is translates to the “knowledge of longevity” or the “science of life”

It’s a comprehensive philosophy that addresses physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

Where did Ayurveda originate from?

Ayurveda is a system of holistic medicine that originated in India more than 5,000 years agoIt offers a unique approach to health that resonates deeply in today’s fast-paced world where stress and chronic illnesses are on the rise.

How does Ayurveda work?

Ayurveda is rooted in the idea of reaching balance and harmony through its tri-dosha concept.

By balancing the mind, body and soul, we can maximise our wellbeing therefore allowing us to live a life full of potential.

The Tri-Dosha Concept

Doshas are energy types that are responsible for all physical and mental processes in the body. Vata, Pitta and Kapha are the three dosha’s made up of the elements as shown below:

Vata
Air and Ether

Pitta
Fire and Water

Kapha
Water and Earth

We are all born with all three dosha’s but each of us have a unique proportion of the three where one or more Dosha’s may be more dominant. Dosha’s influence our behaviours as well as our emotional and physical health. Understanding the dosha’s helps you to understand yourself and heal yourself.

How it works

We develop a deep understanding of the root cause of your imbalance during the initial consultation.

We then work collaboratively to create a tailor made plan which includes dietary recommendations, lifestyle modifications, mindful practices and herbal medications if appropriate based on the nature of your imbalance.

Follow up appointments to track your process, assess any changes to your health and adapt the treatment plan as appropriate.

You will feel healthy, energised, more connected to yourself which ultimately allows you to promote longevity and thrive in this modern-day world.
